C. 1820 "de Nǐmes" Jacket Textile:4 Early 19th century heavy linen-woolThe term "Denim" originates from this French fabric "Toile de Nmes." Originally developed as a durable twill fabric for workwear and later ticking for household items. This textile was used as a mattress cover, once stuffed with feathers, reflecting how ticking was often repurposed for different uses due to it's resilience.
