It most commonly appears in deep red or deep yellow, though examples in beige, brown, grey, and purple are also known. Its name derives from the word "mooka", used by Indigenous Australians, meaning "running waters". Because of its origins, Mookaite may also contain fossils. One of its larger deposits is found in Western Australia,
