This is VERY common for the earliest 1890s and early 1900s griddles, as they were placed and sometimes maintained over the eye openings of wood stoves. Wood can create sulfur pits over time but they do not affect cooking or the continuity of the griddle. Its a beautiful piece with some unique character from its era.
