The obverse has an illustration of the pit head in slight relief, with the words "NCB SCOTTISH DIVISION KINNEIL COLLIERY" around it. The reverse has a suspension hole for wall hanging, below which is a coat of arms and the words "IN COMMEMORATION OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF KINNEIL COLLIERY MAY 1957"
