The BBC produced many excellent language courses and this is certainly the best of those which I followed. It owes a lot to the stories which run through the series, which sneaks in many biblical and other religious references! Some significant aspects of Italian history and culture are introduced in a light hearted fashion (Dante, Garibaldi, Verdi etc).
