Her father was Charles and her mother was Betty (Elizabeth Brierley) Betty Batty. She was the second oldest of nine children. I wonder if she chose that verse because her little sisters Emma (age 5) and Hannah (age1) passed away that same year. Mary Ann only lived to age 23 and died on December 24th 1855.
