「東京郊外の麦畑と松林の向うに見えるbaseに憧れていたのは、もう50年も前のことである。その頃は何故不思議なアメリカの町がそこにあるのかは理解出来なかった。飛行機が好きだったわたしにとってそこは「アジール」な空間であり、古代から続く戦士の兵器である「鏃」のようにも見える美しい戦闘機に魅了されていた。その後1970年を体験し、すべての気持ちが崩壊し、鬱々として過ごした日々をわたしは思い出す。戦争が如何に人々を不幸にするか、親の姿を見ることで理解出来た。仕事に追われbaseのことは忘れた。時間を自由に使えるようになった今、首都圏南部にある、航空機以外は何も変わっていないbaseに5年ほど通い、最新の高速デジタル・オートフォーカス・カメラを使い撮影したのがこの写真集である。美しい戦闘機に魅了される気持ちと、戦争に抗う気持ちとの矛盾を解決出来ないまま、わたしはカメラを握っている。」
