Garter Snake and Grasshopper — Giclée on Paper Watercolor this summer field landscape isA garter snake strikes upward at a grasshopper in mid flight the snake's body coiled on a sandy bank, the yellow striped scales rendered scale by scale, the mouth open wide, the grasshopper's wings spread at the moment of attempted escape. This is one of Glen's earliest known works, signed 1963, and it already demonstrates the observational discipline that would define his career: the snake's anatomy is exact, the grasshopper's wing venation visible.
