The word 'Coloured' was notoriously used to 'paint' Black people in a hue that really is the absence of light and therefore the absence of true colour

A true representation of the 'Old Mas' with all it's vibrance and excitement but not forgetting the darkness that started it all

This piece magnifies the stark difference between the two extreme meanings of the word coloured

One would say 'Leave me alone' and the other would rudely respond 'You born alone'

I had fun creating the many layers of this natural oasis as I brushed aside bouts of homesickness but reveled in national pride
